Be sure to use your BRAIN!

There are so many decisions that you have to make in regards to your body and your birthing experience…

It can be difficult trying to decide what is best and medically necessary or if your providers own agenda is steering your birth experience. That’s why using your B.R.A.I.N can help you thoroughly ween through the process. Pinpoint the problem that is being presented and use your B.R.A.I.N to clarify if its actually a problem at all.

So what exactly does using you B.R.A.I.N mean?

B-Benefit: When your provider tells you that something needs to be done, asking what the benefits are of that intervention can help you understand why it may be necessary. For example, you may ask “How can this be helpful?”

R-Risk: After you understand the benefits, it is now important to also understand the risksof that intervention. Asking “What are the side effects?”can help bring to light the downside of going forward with it.

A-Alternatives: There are often other options that may be available to you, so by asking “what are the other options?” or “Can anything else be done instead?”can help you figure out what path to take.

I-Intuition: Listening to your gut is often the best thing you can do. Our intuition rarely steers us wrong. What does your intuition tell you is best?

N-Next steps/Not now: Lastly, you can now choose to go forward with the next steps or choose to do nothing and wait it out. You can always ask your providers to give you a couple of hours to see if your body can make change on it’s own without an intervention.

Now that you have the proper tool to help with decision making, don’t be afraid to use your B.R.A.I.N!

We teach B.R.A.I.N in our childbirth education classes and would be happy to help you learn more about your options on your big day!
