Dr. Rashida Cohen graduated with a BS from Spelman in 1997 and with her doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University in 2001. Dr. Cohen had a scholarship to be involved in research at both Spelman College and Life University. In almost 20 years of practice, she specializes in caring for pregnant women and children and absolutely LOVES what she does. Her patients have babies that are in the best position for birth, leading to a smoother and easier, labor and delivery. She enjoys helping patients get better without the use of drugs or surgery. My journey into birthwork began with my first pregnancy and the care I received from midwives. It was after the birth of my second child in 2010 that I started my career as a doula and one year later began officially studying to become a midwife. Through many years of studying nutrition, healing through food, herbalism, grassroots movements, and reproductive justice, I traveled a path with all roads leading to this work. After completing a didactic midwifery program and an apprenticeship, where I attended over 150 births, I became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)® . In addition to being a CPM, I hold a master's degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy. I have more than 15 years of experience in community organizing and reproductive heath. I am the Founding Executive Director of Mamatoto Village, a perinatal family support organization located in Washington, DC. I was recently honored by the Mayor of the District of Columbia with a "Washington Women of Excellence Award" in the Leader in Maternal Health. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Human Services with a concentration in Organizational Leadership and Management. I am the mother to three spirited and gentle children, one of whom was born at home. Myself self-care includes hiking, cooking, listening to music and podcasts, and enjoying a good laugh.
