Jacquelin's Gestational Surrogacy Journey Intro

Welcome to my journey!

Hello! I’m Jacquelin, co-owner of Doulas of PG County!

In July of 2019, I finally decided to start the process of becoming a gestational surrogate. I had been juggling with the idea of either doing this or donating my eggs. While I ultimately decided that egg donation wasn’t for me, I did decide that surrogacy was right for my family and me. My husband and I had long before known that our family was complete with our own two children, and I joked that since I had a perfectly working oven, why not loan it out to someone who needs it? Gestational Surrogates are not in any way genetically related to the baby. An embryo created by the couple’s sperm and egg are transferred into the carrier and hopefully implants. If the couple are two men, they then get an egg donor, which is typically someone they know such as a good friend or family member.

After a couple of hiccups, I finally found the perfect agency for me and decided to go on the journey with Creative Family Connections. They are located here in the DMV area, and while it is not necessary for your agency to be in the same area as you, it just so happened that this one was. After filling out the online application and going thru medical records clearance, I was matched with a wonderful couple! My intended fathers (IF’s) also live in DC and are such a great fit for me! I only had three requirements when it came to being matched: not racist, not homophobic and not intolerant in anyway. Basically, I wanted decent human beings lol. My IF’s have been amazing and sweet, and I am lucky to be able to help them in their quest to become parents.

The process to becoming a surrogate is a long and tedious one that I will go into depth within another blog, but we have just finished up legal contracts and will now go on to IVF with a transfer date soon after! I invite you to follow along on my journey and encourage any questions you may have!
