Have You Considered Placenta Encapsulation?

What exactly IS placenta encapsulation? Placenta encapsulation is the process of steaming, dehydrating and grinding the placenta into capsules for ingestion. It is ancient Chinese Medicine, and has become increasingly popular in the U.S. Does it sound a little weird or even gross you out a bit? Don’t worry, we can take the ick factor away and you can consume them like you would any other pill! Celebrities like: Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Tia and Tamara Mowery, Kim Zolciak, and Blac Chyna have all encapsulated their placentas!

You can choose to have your placenta processed into several different forms:

  • Capsules (most common): Typically a placenta yields around 80-150 pills, but since the placenta size depends on the size of the baby, the number of pills can be more or less than that.

  • Salve: A Butter/cream that can be used on the skin to help with dryness, stretch marks, and scarring.

  • Tinctures (most potent): A concentrated mixture of placenta powder and 80 proof or higher vodka. Its placed in a small glass bottle with dropper, and can be used in drinks.

There is not substantial scientific evidence of the benefits of placenta encapsulation, and the benefits that we do know about it are mostly anecdotal; however, the reported benefits include:

  • Increase in milk supply

  • Increase in energy level

  • Can help restore iron levels

  • Helps balance the hormones responsible for fluxuations in postpartum mood changes, such as baby blues, postpartum depression and anxiety

  • Helps uterus contract back to its normal size

  • Can be used for PMS symptoms and kept all the way to menopause

Doulas of Prince George’s County encapsulates your placenta in your home, so that it prevents cross contamination and you never have to worry if it’s actually your placenta that you are receiving!
