We were asked the question on our social media…

“I have extreme nausea and stomach pain. Like hunched over and shaking. What tips do you have please?”

Our doulas answered!

  • Has it happened more than once? I cut down on certain foods that might be bothering me.  A bath/ shower helps me as well.

  • My SIL used sea bands and ear seeds for her first trimester and had great luck with both when she used them consistently.

  • Smelling cut lemon can help with nausea.

  • Smelling or eating anything sour helped me for a while for sure.

  • Have you heard the trick with smelling an alcohol pad?

  • Different things went through phases of helping. Sucking on peppermints or smelling peppermint essential oil. The Peggie Pops lozenges helped. Most importantly though NOTHING tight at all wear completely loose clothing, and make yourself cool, a fan/ ice pack on your neck/chest. Crunch ice. I know it is SO HARD to feel like you can’t put anything in your mouth when you're that nauseous.  The first 20 weeks or so of my pregnancy was like that. I hope you feel better soon! 😫💜💜

  • Oh also laying on my side helped it go away quickly but briefly enough that I could eat/drink something, which helped in the long term. Stomach being empty was the biggest trigger, which obviously created a vicious cycle.

  • Peach leaves (dried) with ginger. You can make tea with the leaves or let them steep overnight in water, strain and drink.

  • Try and get some ginger lollipops (Amazon) try some chamomile tea and tea spoon manuka honey.

  • Relaxing hypnotherapy with Janu Joyful Services in Bethesda or virtually, anywhere, or Sunflower Healing and Wellness in Alexandria.

  • Extreme Nausea is awful, I'm so sorry! But stomach pain is a red flag IMO, especially if that's what's making you hunch over and shake. Please make sure your OB is consulted about this symptom.
