And then came the meds.... (Surrogacy blog)

We finally got a transfer date!!

We will complete a frozen embryo transfer on 4/10/2020! This news is exciting for my IF’s (intended fathers) and I, as we have been going through this process for a while. So, when my box of medication arrived the other day, it all started to feel that much more real.  I took the first injection yesterday, which is Lupron, that is injected into your lower abdomen. My husband gave me the shot and as nervous as I was, it turned out to be quick and painless. I have to take the Lupron shot every day in the morning. I will then start the progesterone shots about a week before the transfer. The progesterone shots are the “not-so-fun” shots that is given in your butt. The needle is really long, and the medicine is an oil so it’s a slower application and makes the muscle sore. I’m not so excited about those!

There are no restrictions to my diet or everyday life while on the medications which make things a lot easier. I have three appointments for bloodwork at the fertility clinic, CCRM, this month to check the lining in my uterus to make sure the meds are doing their job and preparing for transfer. Right now, there is a pandemic with the COVID-19 and as a doula, this is a very nerve-wracking time, since we work in hospitals and travel to many different homes for postpartum support. As a surrogate, I am being extra cautious since my transfer date is coming up, so I am taking the necessary precautions to be safe and healthy. I hope you all are also staying safe, washing your hands frequently, trying not to touch your face and staying away from large crowds.
